What is a Galette?
If youโve never heard of this tasty pastry before, itโs time to try making one for yourself! A galette is a type of traditional French puff pastry. Generally, they are made with a flakey crust and a sweet surprise hidden inside, but all a galette needs to be a galette is a flat, round base of bread or dough. Ours features crunchy walnuts and sweet pears on top.
Donโt let its heritage frighten you! While many home cooks consider French cuisine the territory of professional chefs, that couldnโt be further from the truth – especially in the case of the galette. This European favorite is one of the easiest pastries to whip up in your own kitchen.
How to Arrange Pears in a Galette
Our Pear Galette is simple to make! Thereโs no need to make the pastry base from scratch. We simply used a premade pie crust. Bosc pears, walnut crumble, and maple glaze completes the galette.
So how should you fit all those tasty pears onto your galette? Thereโs no need to make a fancy design – but there is a good way to make them delicious and easy to eat. Start by slicing each pear in half and removing the cores. Cut each of the halves lengthwise into thin slices, but donโt separate them.
When youโre done, simply try to fill as much of the pie crust with the pears with few gaps between them. Leave about a one-inch border around the pears and fill in the crevices between them with the walnut crumble mixture.
