One of our favorite things about fall is making homemade pumpkin puree. This can be done in the oven and if you have an Instant Pot, you can use it for Instant Pot Pumpkin Puree. Whichever method you choose to use, both are simple processes that result in delicious homemade pumpkin puree and pumpkin seeds!

Roasted pumpkin seeds are crunchy and this version is salt and pepper. The small pie pumpkins contain smaller seeds, while carving pumpkin result in larger seeds. No matter what, don’t throw away the seeds of your pumpkin!

How to Remove the Strings from Pumpkin Seeds

This is probably the worst part of the entire process. However, we have found that rinsing the seeds in a strainer under water is the best way to remove the sticky strings.

How Long to Bake Seeds

When roasting seeds, you need to watch them in the oven. Preheat your oven to 400ยฐ. The smaller seeds will take about 5 minutes to turn a light brown color while the larger seeds can take up to 20 minutes to dry out and turn golden brown.

Other Flavor Combinations

There’s a variety of ways to season pumpkin seeds. This salt and pepper version is a fall favorite among Lori’s family. If you want to try out a variety of flavors try these:

  • 2 TBSP Coconut Oil, 1 tsp Cinnamon and 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 TBSP Butter with 2 TBSP Ranch Seasoning
  • 2 TBSP Butter and 2 TBSP Pumpkin Pie Spice

If your family has a favorite combination, let us know what it is in the comment section below!
